ADOLESCENTS WIN THIRD PLACE IN REGIONAL CONTEST "TECNOLOGIA SI,
CONECTATE CON RESPONSABILIDAD" (TECHNOLOGY YES, GET CONNECTED
RESPONSIBLY)
- The video contest for adolescents "Tecnologia
Si, Conectate con Responsabilidad - Latinoamerica 2009", was convened
by ECPAT International, Save the Children Sweden, Civil Association
Chicos.net, Network for the Human Rights of Children and Adolescents to
a Safe and Responsible Use of the Information and Communication
Technologies and Google.
- The initiative was propelled in Costa Rica by
Fundacion Paniamor with the support of the Ministerio de Educación
Pública, the Viceministerio de Juventud, the Centro Costarricense de
Producción Cinematográfica, Radiográfica Costarricense S.A. y el
Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología, as well as receiving the
sponsorship of Los 40 Principales, VM Latino y CCM Cinemas.
In Costa Rica 25
videos participated from which a qualified jury selected the first,
second and thir place after evaluating their content, creativity and
originality.
The three videos
selected went on to compete equally with videos from Brazil, Argentina,
Venezuela, Mexico, Bolivia and Paraguay. The result was a well deserved
third place for Costa Rica corresponding to the video
"Protegete"
by the group called "Caja Abierta" (Open Box) comoposed by Anthony
Carballo (14 years old), Carlos Salazar (14 years old), Fabiana Hurtado
(13 years old), Fran Jose Arias (13 years old) and Joaquin Calderón (25
years old), this last one as the facilitator.
Through their video, these adolescentes from Los
Chiles, North Frontier, calls attention to the risk when handling personal data
in Internet. In their own words: “if we are careful in the real world: we don’t
give out information to strangers, we don’t open the door to just anybody, and
we put alarms in all our properties, then why do we allow for our personal
information to be visible for the whole world and for anybody to use?”
